REFLECTION - ONG CHUN AUN ASHLEY

a. INTRODUCTION
Describe the approach/strategy used.

b. DEVELOPMENT
What were the challenges encountered during implementation?
What were the tactics employed to resolve the difficulties met?
What further improvements can be suggested?

c. PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
What new insights/discoveries have I made in relation to my role as a teacher?
How will I make use of this new knowledge in future?
What further information or knowledge should I seek to expand my knowledge in relation to this context?

Brought the kids to the singapore flyer this morning. Nothing interesting actually happened.

After getting back to school, i went over to the hall to help liling out in the team bonding exercise.

I was walking around when i saw an interesting design for a flag. I proceed to ask the student what the design meant. He told me it was the symbol of darth vader' death star and their motto was "all for one , one for the kill"

I was actually quite shock by this and further questioned the student about his group motto. HE told me he liked violence just like in the video games where you get to shoot people.

I was at a lost on should i reply the student for his thinking. Clearly, the game to him was fun however i wonder was he able to separate fiction from reality.

  2. Mdm Anisa begins the lesson by asking the class how did they feel about their previous test. Many students asked for a retest but Mdm Anisa explained that in life, 2nd chances do not come often. As such, they need to learn to appreciate every opportunity given to them to perform. Therefore, there will be no re-test.
She introduced the topic on Pythagoras Theorem by telling them even though it’s a very short topic, its also a very important one as the concept they will learn here will be used through when they are in sec 3 and 4. She continued by telling them that in the Pythagoras Theorem can only be applied in right-angled triangles. What followed was a series of questions probing and recapping the students’ knowledge and understanding on the properties of triangles. Special case of isso triangle is one with the base angles of 45o.
To recap on the topic further, she went through with the class on the method of naming triangles, sides and angles. Capital letters for the corner of triangles; and small letters for the lengths and angles. And the longest length will always be opposite the greatest angle in a triangle. Name given to length in right angle triangle is called a hypotenuse.
Her approach to this class is some what different in the sense that she gives the formulae to the class. After that she writes several other equations and ask the class to think whether they are the same thing.
    e.g is b2=a2+c2 and b2=(a+c)2
This not only drives home their understanding for the theorem but also recap their knowledge for algebraic expansion
